A face emerging from, or perhaps sinking into, the raw matter of the earth. "The Sleeper"
captures the liminal state between existence and non-existence, consciousness and dream.
Technical Details
Lost-wax cast bronze face set into a hand-quarried limestone rough. The bronze is patinated to a
deep, earthen brown to blend with the stone.
The Process
The wax original was modeled directly onto the stone to ensure a perfect fit. After casting, the
bronze was manually chased to refine the features before being permanently pinned into the rock
base.
Artist's Note
"We are all born from the earth, and we all return to it. This piece is a portrait of that
transition—a peaceful acceptance of our material origins."
