A piercing vertical form carved from dense black granite. "Shard of Silence" evokes a sense of
rising energy, a dark flame solidified in stone. Its sharp angles and high polish reflect the
surroundings, integrating the viewer into the void of the sculpture itself.
Technical Details
Indian Black Absolute Granite. This material is incredibly dense and difficult to work with,
requiring diamond-tipped tungsten tools. The surface is polished to a mirror finish. Height:
150cm.
The Process
Unlike marble, granite does not 'forgive'. Every strike must be deliberate. The faceting was
achieved using large angle grinders with a jig to ensure planar perfection. The final polish
took over 200 hours of wet-sanding to achieve the deep, liquid black appearance.
Artist's Note
"Black granite absorbs light, but polished, it reflects the world. This piece is a paradox—it is
a dark void that contains everything around it. It is a monument to the silence that cuts
through the noise of modern life."
